10 Years Ago… “I Knew You Were Trouble When You Walked In?”, the definitive Taylor Swift single, stomped its way into the Billboard Top 5.

“I Knew You Were Trouble When You Walked In” remains one of Taylor’s most popular songs. More popular – albeit marginally – than her previous single “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together”, despite that song being probably Taylor’s funniest, like… ever. And funnest. “Weeee-eeee!!!!!!”

Taylor has always been proud of being a nightmare... & people who are nightmares attract other people who are nightmares. Some of the best movies involve two nightmares who need each other so much they travel across America causing devastation. It’s a classic because it’s real.

And so we have Taylor, starting the video for “I Knew You Were Trouble When You Walked In” – a song title so long that it’s obvious we are going to overdose on emo – with a voice over. A voice over that goes on for two whole minutes. Between the monologue and the emo-ness of the song title, it’s pretty obvious that some heavy shit is about to go down. And then we watch as Taylor, sweet and innocent country girl that she was, has her mind blown up a world full of indie records that are way cooler than hers.

I guess we'd better talk about dubstep! The Wikipedia entry for “IKYWTWYWI” mentions dubstep 16 times!! But it was 2012 and if you were writing a song in 2012 that ended with you lying on the cold hard ground then was there any other sound available for you to communicate the emotions that go with it? Particularly if you wanted the song to be constantly on the radio; not because you needed a hit or anything, but to ensure that your ex- constantly hears it wherever he goes and it drives him insane. It wouldn't surprise me if that whole, quite frankly irritating "Trouble... Trouble... Trouble" bits were put in there specifically to annoy him just that little bit more.

Sometimes Taylor can be so evil… I like that.

“I Knew You Were Trouble When You Walked In” is an 8.
