And Interpol were not exactly an “up” band. It's in the way that they posed – in suits. Not just wearing suits but filming the video in a soul-sucking empty office, whilst singing about being poor & aging (Paul Banks was 24) “Obstacle 1” is the sound of hope being suck out of you & somehow they make it sound glamorous.

 

If you haven’t danced to “Obstacle 1” on the sticky carpet of an indie dive-bar after downing a Jagerbomb or two, discombobulated by the way the guitar stabs are jumping from one speaker to the next, then have you even lived?
