30 Years Ago… the mosh pit was moshing in a slightly more
self-conscious manner than usual because Nirvana’s “In Bloom” was in the stores
& everyone was wondering… “is Kurt singing about me?”
Or maybe it was just me.
Nirvana must have known right? They must have known that
“Smells Like Teen Spirit” was going to change the world. Why else would the
second song on “Nevermind”, right after “Teen Spirit” be a song about how much
they distrust the type of people that “Teen Spirit” was going to attract? People
who like pretty songs, and to shoot their guns?
I have probably spent more time than I should have,
wondering if Kurt is singing about me – just to clarify, although I do like
Nirvana’s more pretty songs, I do not own, nor do I have any interest in
owning, a gun - or if he’d like me if he
met me. I don’t know. And I also don’t know what “In Bloom” means.
In that however, I don’t think I can be blamed: “Nature is a
whore”? “Bruises on the fruit”? “Reproductive glands” What are you on about
Kurt?!?!?
