30 Years Ago… Arrested Development helped us see homeless people in a whole new light on “Mr Wendal.” Instead of not giving them any money and then making a million dollars writing a song about how you felt bad about not giving them any money, ala “Another Day In Paradise,” Speech from Arrested Development … sees “Mr Wendal” is the fountain of all wisdom. Providing a better education than big colleges. Because he lives without the worries of a quick-to-diss society. And eats off the food we waste.
That’s a very Speech-way of looking at the world. But at
least Speech gets to know him, and gives him a dollar… in fact, no brother man,
he gives him two! Then he writes a poem about it.
Arrested Development were one of the oddest hip-hop
collectives of all time. The fact that they seemed to live out in the middle of
the country seemed a bit weird. The fact that they had an old man - Baba Oje –
who performed the role of spiritual leader, or father figure, was bizarre.
None of that however is quite as weird as Speech beginning
“Mr Wendal” by laughing like a maniac.
You might think that “Mr Wendal” is dumb, but I judge – who am I to judge? - that “Mr Wendel” is a 10!
Go ahead Mr Wendal!
